These smoky, little bites are crunchy and packed with flavour. These “bacon” bits can be served on everything, try them on a salad, baked potato, or chili, the possibilities are endless.

2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke
2 tablespoon boiling water
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
1/2 tbsp molasses
1 tbsp Date Sweetened Barbeque Sauce
1/8 tsp turmeric
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1/4 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine all of the ingredients except for the TVP, mix well.

Add the TVP, stir and let sit for 10 minutes. Stir again and let sit for another 10 minutes.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread out the bacon bits.

Bake for 20 minutes, stirring at the 10 minute mark. After the 20 minutes remove from the bacon bits from the oven and stir every few minutes until they are cool to the touch, so they don’t stick to the parchment paper. When completely cool place in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Enjoy them with baked potatoes and dairy free sour cream.
